5 Fall Trends You Can Find at Freshfields Village

2 September 2020

Cooler days are just around the corner, and it’s time to freshen up your fall wardrobe! A new season is the perfect excuse for a closet refresh, and the retailers at Freshfields Village are bringing in trendy, new styles daily.

Say hello to fall with these five fashion trends, inspired by runways around the world.

Performance-Oriented Fashion

This season’s fashion is focused on comfort and style working hand-in-hand. Tommy Bahama, located next door to Cantina 76, is offering the perfect selection of pullovers and sweaters that strike the right tone between pajama cozy and corporate comfy. Transition from late-Summer’s cool air-conditioned mornings to Fall’s crisp, fresh days with the wide selection of transitional clothing at Tommy Bahama to layer all season long.

Accessorize Autumn

Autumn is all about accessorizing. Gloves are the next perfect fall accessory for both style and safety all season long. Visit Holly & Brooks to immerse yourself in high-quality and beautiful accessories for this trend, which is located in the Village Green. The trending men’s fall accessories include neckties and snugly fit beanies. Whether sticking to solid colors or a stylish, patterned tie, stop by vineyard vines for the elements of elegance you need.

Step Into Fall

Embrace fall fashion with a giant step into the season. Combine practicality with comfort at Trés Carmen for a new pair of booties, the shoes you can look forward to stomping through this season in, or a pair of rain boots right next door at Coastal Footwear. Trending men’s shoes highlight the Chelsea Boot, which is appropriate for all different types of occasions and comes in both suede or leather–also available at Coastal Footwear.

Power Dressing

What women’s style can you expect this fall? Power dressinga contrast of wearing tailored, masculine-inspired clothing including suits, trousers or dresses. Step into J.McLaughlin on the Village Green for classic prints and lightweight blouses and dresses, which are the perfect for transition to fall! Or shop at TINA Stephens to arm your wardrobe with a few essential pieces, located across the street from Java Java.

Functional Outerwear Only

Men’s fashion this Autumn is focused on functionality. Browse the wide selection of puffer vests and clothing items with extra pockets, straps and compartments at Seacoast Sports Outfitters to add some athleisure and street style looks to your closet. Instead of grabbing a large coat or light jacket, consider reaching for a cardigan to elevate your outfit. Grab one from Southern Tide’s large selection of classic apparel.

Fall for your favorite fashion trends and visit us any day of the week. With the variety of options available right at the Village, we know you’ll be on trend.

For the Family

Treat dad to a special experience with the entire family! How does a weekend getaway sound to spend quality time away from home? Check out the availability at the Andell Inn located in the Village. Enjoy a relaxing stay at the boutique hotel, stroll through the Village to enjoy shopping and dining just a few steps away, rent bikes and venture to the beach.

Dad might not be the breakfast in bed type, so think about dining al fresco on Sunday, June 21! Restaurants throughout the Village are open for indoor and outdoor dining with limited capacity. Make a reservation at one of our onsite restaurants and treat dad to some quality time over a favorite meal.

If you’re not ready to dine out, all of the Village restaurants are offering takeout options and curbside pick up. Select one of his favorite spirits at Kiawah Spirits and mix up a signature cocktail just for him!

For the Outdoorsman

For dads that prefer to get active and outside, Seacoast Sports and Outfitters is your one-stop-shop. Spend some time on the water with their kayak and paddleboard rentals or explore the island by bike with their bike rentals. Get outside and active to build some memories this Father’s Day.

Pair your experience with some new gear! The shop carries an extensive selection of brands. Some of our favorite picks include YETI coolers and drinkware, Free Fly outdoor apparel, Smith eye-wear, or everyday goodies for fishing, golf, and more.

Welcoming You Back to the Village

20 May 2020

As shops and restaurants begin to reopen, we’re looking forward to welcoming guests back to the Village! We continue to keep the health and wellness of our community a top priority and with that, all businesses here at Freshfields have been tailoring services to follow safety guidelines and recommendations. As of July 1, 2020, based on Town of Kiawah Ordinance, all patrons and employees are required to wear face coverings inside businesses and while waiting to be seated at restaurants. We encourage the use of masks outdoors where social distancing can not be maintained.

Upon your next visit to the Village, you’ll see we’ve put some new measures in place. Signage has been placed throughout the Village and we ask guests to be mindful and adhere to new regulations as we reopen in a safe manner.

ON THE VILLAGE GREEN

We ask that all guests practice safe social distancing while enjoying the Village Green and outdoor spaces. We are maintaining safe sanitation practices throughout interior and exterior public areas and have installed hand sanitizer stations for guest use.

While we work hard to ensure the Village remains as safe as possible for visitors and staff, we have paused our regularly scheduled events. However, smaller scaled events are scheduled for the holiday season. Details are available online! We ask that all guests enjoying our holiday entertainment wear masks and socially distance.

CURBSIDE PICKUP

Restaurants and retailers are still offering curbside pickup options. For the convenience of our guests, we have reserved parking spaces for curbside pickup. Please utilize the designated spaces marked with “curbside parking” signage when coming to pick up your online/phone order.

RESTAURANTS + RETAIL STORES

We ask that guests practice safe social distancing inside retail establishments and restaurants. Each retailer has posted the current customer occupancy at their front door. Based on occupancy restrictions, customers may be required to wait outside. In that event, you’ll find sidewalk decals in place for any retail stores or restaurants that may have to form lines. Individual businesses may have additional safety requirements for their guests. A full list of current hours of operation is available online.

GENERAL UPDATES

We will continue to maintain safe sanitation practices throughout the Village. Hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the property. While your furry friends are still welcome, please remember that your pets should always be on a leash.

Thank you for your cooperation and support during this time!

Foodie Alert: Dine Your Way Through the Village

4 March 2020

Are you sick of hitting up the same go-to spots on your nights out? Freshfields Village offers a variety of places to check out on your next date night or day with the family. From Mexican to sushi and things in between, you are sure to find a place that will satisfy even the pickiest eater.

Mexican everyone can enjoy: Cantina 76

Cantina 76 is a fun, award-winning Mexican restaurant. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Cantina 76 features an affordable taqueria based menu in a lively atmosphere. The housemade salsa is made from tomatoes grown right here in South Carolina, and with a variety of tacos ranging from veggie-filled to meat-filled, you are sure to create a meal everyone can enjoy. The patio is pet-friendly which is a bonus if your furry friend wants to join in on a family night out.

They even have some fun, specialty cocktails available this month that we highly recommend!

Mango Habanero Margarita: This sweet and spicy cocktail combines Milagro Reposado Tequila, infused with a habanero pepper in-house for 10 days, with mango puree, sweet and sour mix and fresh lime juice. Infusing the tequila with the habanero gives this drink a smooth, smokier flavor than a typical house tequila would.

Absolut Pear-A-Dise: The Absolut Pear-A-Dise is Cantina’s newest special cocktail, combining Anjou pear infused vodka with fresh lime juice, soda water and a lime wedge. It’s light and refreshing, and great for the soon-to-be spring days.

Happy Hour | Cantina 76 | Freshfields Village | Kiawah Island

Pair these cocktails with a customer favorite – Peruvian Shrimp Tacos. Made with lightly fried shrimp and topped with coleslaw and a sweet sesame chili sauce, you won’t be disappointed with this pick.

Ready for March Maddness? King Street Grille has got you covered.

King Street Grille offers a variety of bites  with more than 60 items on the menu. Voted best sports bar for over a decade by Charleston City Paper, you’ll be sure to find anything from a delicious salad customized by you, to a southern style, sweet tea fried chicken on the menu. With a pet-friendly patio, King Street Grille is an upscale sports bar that is perfect for everyone in the family.

Charleston Shop Curator’s Staycation Guide Has You Covered

29 October 2019

With all the hustle and bustle we experience in our everyday lives, it’s sometimes easy to get to the end of a busy week and feel as if you haven’t come up for air. When Andrea Serrano, Charleston Shop Curator, gets that feeling, she comes out to the Village for a day of shopping and activities or grabs her family and books her next staycation.

We’re sharing some adventures from her recent visit to help you plot your own course during your next trip out here!

Find Your Inner Aromachologist

While you’ve probably heard by now that Palmetto Scent Studio is a must-stop place for all things candles, you may not yet know that they have some exciting new offerings as well! In addition to customizing your own candle, you can now make diffusers, body creams, body mists, sugar scrubs or soaps. Made from skin-quenching ingredients, these new products leave you feeling soft, fresh, and lightly scented with your favorite customized fall blends.

This time around Andrea tried one of their new offerings, the body cream. It’s made from goat milk and honey and is paraben free. She went with a mix of seasonal scents – mulled cider, bourbon and cinnamon. Check out her full experience here.

Palmetto Scent Studio is also the perfect setting for your next weekend night out, birthday party, or corporate gathering. This month, you’ll receive 15% off any regularly priced scented item during the Fall Sip & Stroll happening on Thursday, November 21st from 4 to 7 pm. Stop by Palmetto Scent Studio during the Holiday Festival Weekend and enjoy creating a beautifully scented holiday candle or diffuser, one as a gift and one for you!

A View From Two Wheels

Walking is overrated! Hop on a bike (or grab a skateboard if that’s more your style) and tour the Village and our surrounding nature areas for a unique way to soak up the sights and sounds of fall. Andrea and her husband Gustavo took a spin on a rented bicycle from SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters for a day and her son opted for the skateboard. With over 30 miles of bike paths and ten miles of beach to ride on, there’s an endless amount of scenic views.

Grab a Bite

After working up an appetite, satisfy your hunger with a delectable variety of dining options. Grab a slice at La Tela Pizzeria, a burger at King Street Grille, Mexican favorites at Cantina 76, a bowl of soup at Ladles or opt for a Reuben and fries at The Station.

Andrea and her family opted for Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill this go around. With a gourmet selection of sushi rolls, authentic hibachi and signature cocktails to choose from, Andrea found herself diving into a dumpling appetizer, followed by a variety of creative and fresh roll combinations.

Relax In Style

The Andell Inn provides the perfect spot to unwind after a long day of enjoying the Village. Whether you’re a guest with a room of your own, or just want to kick up your feet and sip a hand-crafted cocktail at The Porch Bar, you’ll feel like you just walked into your “home away from home.” Take a stroll on the porch overlooking Andell Lake, or cozy up next to the fireplace in The Great Room with a glass of wine.

Fall is in the air here at the Village and we hope you’ll add some of these fun offerings to your list of to-dos!

Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol Update

23 August 2019

Freshfields Village was honored to host the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol at the 2019 Summer Farmer’s Market. The volunteers were able to meet guests and provide educational information about the island’s sea turtle nesting season. As August comes to a close, so does the Kiawah Island nesting season. Even though the island’s nesting season started earlier than normal this year, this is the typical time that the female loggerheads finish up their nesting. The island has recorded close to 560 nests this season and the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol expects that number to continue to rise. Though the mothers are no longer nesting, the patrol will continue to come across nests that were not initially found.

The Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol has 8 different Hatching Patrol teams on the beach every morning. This patrol, who is in full swing right now, walks their mile or so of beach every morning, usually starting before sunrise, looking for hatchling tracks that have emerged from a nest. When a turtle nest hatches, it takes about 3 days for the babies to leave the nest, which is called an emergence. The hatchlings are born with a little tooth that helps them tear through their shell. Once out, though still attached to the egg, they start to “flatten out” (they have been curved in the egg for the past 50 or so days!) and they absorb the rest of their egg sack and eventually, they disconnect from it. YES! Hatchlings do have belly buttons! The little turtles then “clean up” their nest, marching around with their 100 brothers and sisters, truly getting stronger. They wait for the top of the nest to cool down, usually at night, then they all make their way to the ocean together.  The Hatching Patrol looks for these tiny tracks as they walk their zone.

It has been an exciting and record-breaking season so far! What will the total number of nests be on the island this season?

There are two ways you can keep up with the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol. Follow @townofkiawah on Instagram and Facebook or visit the website. You can also join the patrol on the beach while they conduct inventories on hatched nests. Please visit kiawahturtle.com for a listing of inventories and their locations. Please note, you must be a guest/resident to access the island.

We would like to thank the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol volunteers for all their hard work and dedication to keep these beautiful creatures safe!

Head Back to School the Right Way

13 August 2019

August tends to signal the end of summer with kids going back to school and everyone settling in to daily routines. Even though beach days and summer vacation might be winding down, the fun is still happening at Freshfields Village. Take advantage of the last bit of summer with events at the Village and even get some back to school shopping done.

Make the most of evenings on the Village Green!

Our Starlight Cinema Series is running through August 21, so you and your family have a few more opportunities to spend an evening under the stars. Similarly, our summer concert series Music on the Green happens every Friday through August 30 so there are four more concerts to close out the summer. Bring your beach chair or blanket and come join us for live music from local bands! It’s always fun to dust off the dance moves and enjoy a night on the Village Green.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Join us on August 30 from 5-9 pm for a Back to School Bash benefiting the Backpack Buddies program run by the Kiawah Women’s Foundation. The event will take place during the final Music on the Green concert featuring live music from Rising Tide from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Guests can purchase food on the Village Green from Home Team BBQ along with beer and wine from FortyEight – Wine Bar & Kitchen beginning at 5:00 pm, all to benefit Backpack Buddies. In addition, the organization will host a silent auction and raffle to raise funds for the organization.

Expand Your Mind.

While the start of the school year might mean an end to summer reading lists, it also offers the chance to expand your leisure reading list. Indigo Books has your next favorite read waiting on the shelves or the kiddos can pick out an interactive read from Wonder Works.

Tackle Back to School Shopping.

Beyond events and new books, back to school isn’t complete without clothes shopping for new styles. With a variety of stores for children’s clothes there are plenty of options, but that doesn’t mean the kids are the only ones to amp up their wardrobe. You can shop styles for the whole family at stores like vineyard vines, Southern Tide, and Sugar Snap Pea.

As you’re shopping around, keep an eye out for back-to-school promotions throughout the Village. Throughout the month of August, Holly & Brooks is offering 20% off to teachers on an item of their choice. If you’re in the market for some new shoes, Coastal Footwear is offering 15% off all footwear in-store every Tuesday in August! The sales don’t stop there. Southern Tide has specials going on all month long. On Tuesdays receive 15% off all footwear, on Thursdays receive 15% off all swimwear, and on Saturdays take 15% off anything with a Kiawah logo.

Rest & Rejuvenate!

Sometimes, preparing for school to start can be stressful. Give yourself some time to unwind and treat yourself to a spa day at Urban Nirvana. Whether you indulge in a massage, facial, or other relaxing treatment, you’ll leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Before you head home, continue to pamper yourself at Kiawah Nail Studio. Having a day to relax and reset will have you ready and prepared for the start of the school year.

Before the school year starts, soak up the last of summer and take advantage of all that the Lowcountry has to offer. Effective September 8, 2019, all businesses operating within the Town of Kiawah Island, including Freshfields Village, are prohibited from distributing the following items to their customers:

1) Single-Use Plastic Carryout Bags

2) Plastic Straws

3) Products Made from Polystyrene Foam (Styrofoam)

In addition, the ordinance prohibits possession of these items and balloons on the beach.

Kiawah Town Council passed this new Ordinance on June 4 to regulate the use of harmful materials and promote the use of environmentally preferred materials. The goal of this Ordinance is to protect Kiawah’s natural environment, waterways, and marine life to ensure a positive environmental impact on our island for generations to come. For additional information and FAQs, please visit the Town of Kiawah Island’s website.
