What to Expect at Freshfields Village’s Dogtoberfest Event this Fall

It’s fall in the Lowcountry and that means it’s time to bring back a Freshfields favorite – our annual Dogtoberfest event! Taking place on Saturday, October 19 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., we’ll have something for everyone on The Village Green, from a pet expo benefiting local rescue organizations to a costume contest and adoptable dogs looking for their “furever” home. Here’s what you can expect at our Dogtoberfest event, where you’re sure to have a doggone good time!

Meet & Greet with Local Rescues

A free and family-friendly experience, the pet expo on The Village Green includes an adoptable meet & greet with local rescue groups like Charleston Animal Society, Grateful Goldens Rescue, Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, Carolina Coonhounds and Rosie’s Rescue.

Pamper Your Pup

In addition, local pet vendors like Dog Tired, Dolittle’s, Lowcountry Dog Treats, Dog Bow Ties and Salt Marsh Animal Hospital will be popping up at the event. Shop for your furry friend or maybe even adopt a new family member into your home! The pet expo on The Village Green is all about supporting the local community amongst your local community members.

Dress to Impress

An exciting activation at this fun-filled event, the pet costume contest takes place at 4:00 p.m. on the stage at The Village Green! All are welcome to participate as pet owners parade their precious pooches across the stage, competing for great prizes that are sure to make your furry friend wag their tail, including a gift card to The Village’s own Dolittle’s. Dr. Samantha Thompson of Salt Marsh Animal Hospital will be the judge as she awards the parading participants with 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.

Loren Beadle Owns of Six Businesses in The Village, Including Newly Opened Kiawah Wines

A new shop has landed in The Village! While the business may be new, the owner of Kiawah Wines is a seasoned professional, beloved among the Freshfields community and beyond. Behind this exciting venture is none other than Loren Beadle, owner of six businesses throughout The Village, including the newly opened Kiawah Wines. Meet Loren and Kiawah Wines, which is now officially open for business at 625 Freshfields Drive, Kiawah Island, SC 29455.

Meet Loren 

Loren Beadle is a pillar of the Freshfields community as the owner of the following six businesses: Kiawah Wines, Kiawah Spirits, SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters, FortyEight – Wine Bar and Kitchen, FortyEight Reserve Room, and FortyEight Estate Room. Loren and his wife, Amy, are long-time Kiawah Island residents. When they aren’t on the island, they’re living part-time in Chicago. Loren and his wife Amy retired from corporate roles in 2004 after an illustrious 23 years to open their first store, SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters. Now, they boast nine retail shops and restaurants across South Carolina and Illinois. Loren and Amy also endorse a large inner-city charter school network. They have a passion for wine collection and dedicate a few weeks each year to visiting global wine regions.

Meet Kiawah Wines

The highly anticipated grand opening of Kiawah Wines is finally here! This new wine shop offers a curated selection of high-quality wines from around the world. Offering fine wine, craft beer and Kiawah Island’s only champagne bar, Kiawah Wines is a must-visit destination for any wine lover. The shop’s owners, Loren and Amy Beadle, have years of experience in the wine industry and are passionate about sharing their knowledge and love for wine with their customers. A Local Favorite: Freshfields Village Annual Art Walk

Picture this: you’re strolling through The Village taking in the whimsical brushstrokes and vibrant colors of awe-inspiring creations by local and visiting artists. Join us on Friday, February 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm for our annual Art Walk. This event will feature live art demonstrations and works from local and visiting artists throughout participating retail shops. To top it all off, there will be live jazz music, too!

Below is a list of participating stores and artists, so you can start planning your day. Be sure to check back here for any additional announcements. We can’t wait to get artsy with you!

• Start your stroll by stopping into Aubergine Home Collection, where local artist Sara Jane Reynolds work will be on display! She draws her inspiration from the beauty and richness of places such as Kiawah itself. Get inspired and maybe leave with a Plein Air painting or two!
• Kick-off the day at Coastal Footwear, featuring work from artist Julie Wheeler. Stop in for some shoe therapy and meet Julie Wheeler while you’re at it. Maybe you’ll even leave with one of her traditional canvas paintings, murals or coasters!
• Pop by Doin’ The Charleston to check out custom aprons, coffee mugs, ornaments, picture frames and coasters by Lisa Justice! There’s no better way to bring a little piece of Kiawah home with you than picking up one of her custom items. Hungry? Doin’ The Charleston will be offering a food tasting, too!
• Drop in to Holly & Brooks to see local artist Vicki Parry’s stunning oils, watercolors, mixed media and more. Stay to peruse the shoes & accessories, and don’t forget to treat yourself!
• Visit a Freshfields favorite, Patricia Reno Huff Gallery & Art Studio, to gaze at her original work. Bring out the artist in you when you sign up for a group or private class in oil, watercolor, or pastel!
• SeaCoast Sports & Outfitters is a one stop shop, offering outdoors rentals, hosting John Walters of Witzel Art and offering complimentary beverages and snacks! Rent a bike to see the beauty all around the Lowcountry that inspires John.
• Save room for more bites and beverages at Southern Tide Kiawah! Sip as you shop for art by Kaitlin Marler, of Kaitlin’s Whimsy, who creates in oil and textiles.
• Beverly Blume Smith, artist from nearby Seabrook island, will be displaying her art at Spartina 449! Her art is inspired by the beautiful things in nature, such as the fragrance of lilies and the subtleties of light and show across a landscape.
• The Beaufort Bonnet Company is pleased to host local artist Alicia Colella! Shop her tea towels that your kitchen is missing, or one of her acrylic paintings! Make sure to pick up something darling for the little ones, too.
