Cooler mornings, sunny afternoons and plenty of reasons to spend a little extra time outside. Fall in the Lowcountry has officially arrived, and we’re here for it!
Just 30 minutes from downtown Charleston, Freshfields Village and the surrounding Kiawah Island area make it easy to turn a fall day into a little escape. Think a scenic stop beneath the oaks, coffee in hand, an afternoon strolling The Village and plenty of good food along the way.
Whether you’re heading to Kiawah for the day or settling in for a few, consider this your guide to a few of our favorite ways to spend fall around Freshfields Village.
Start With a Fall Flavor
A good fall day starts with something delicious. Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy coffee, a seasonal sip or a bite before exploring, make your first stop at one of Freshfields Village’s restaurants or cafés.
Skip the usual pumpkin spice and stop by Java Java for an Apple Crisp Latte, a fall sip with a little something different. Or, if your fall cravings lean more toward dessert, Hege’s is serving up Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake. Staying for a drink? Try their Autumn Spritz for a seasonal sip to toast the cooler weather.
Grab your coffee to-go and sip while you stroll The Village, or make a reservation at Hege’s and settle in to enjoy the flavors of fall.

Make a Stop at The Goatery
Ready to lean all the way into the fall vibes? Make a stop at The Goatery on Johns Island for a little time with the goats before making your way to Freshfields Village.
Afterward, swing by The Village for lunch or keep the fall fun going with a seasonal scoop from Ben & Jerry’s. Goats, lunch and ice cream? Sounds like a pretty good fall day to us.
Take the Scenic Route Around The Village
No need to rush. Freshfields Village is made for wandering, especially once the fall air starts to feel a little cooler.
Explore on foot or trade your walking shoes for two wheels with a bike rental from SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters. Cruise around The Village and take in the coastal fall scenery, with easy access to paths that connect you to even more of Kiawah. Then, pop into a few shops, browse what’s new for the season or make your way toward The Village Green. Fall is a good excuse for a closet refresh, a new book for the beach or simply a little window shopping between stops. With more than 70 shops, restaurants and services throughout Freshfields Village, there’s plenty to discover along the way. Explore the full Freshfields Village directory before your visit.
Find a Fall Event on The Green
If there’s one thing we love about fall, it’s having another reason to gather outside, and October is packed with them.
Kick things off with the Fall Art Walk on October 9, followed by the inaugural Lowcountry Smoke & Shuck on October 10, bringing Lowcountry flavors, an oyster roast, shrimp boil, barbecue and live music by Charleston singer-songwriter Lauren Hall to The Village Green.
The following weekend, spice things up at Fall Fiesta: Tacos, Tequila & Tunes on October 16, featuring tacos, seasonal cocktails and live music by the Will Thompson Band. Then, grab your blankets and lawn chairs for a fall Movie on The Green featuring Coco on October 17.
And before fall officially gives way to the holidays, make one more trip to The Village for the Thanksgiving Farmers Market on November 23. It’s the perfect chance to get into the holiday spirit and enjoy a final fall outing before Thanksgiving. Looking ahead to the festive season? Explore more ways to celebrate the holidays in and around Charleston, Freshfields style.
End the Day Beneath the Oaks
Not quite ready for your fall day to end? Neither are we. On your way out, make a stop at the Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island, one of the Lowcountry’s most recognizable sights.
Take in the sprawling live oak, winding branches and classic Lowcountry scenery before heading home. It’s an easy final stop and a pretty memorable way to wrap up a fall day around Kiawah and Freshfields Village.
From local art and live music to Lowcountry flavors and an outdoor movie night, there are plenty of reasons to add a trip to The Village to your October calendar. Check the full Freshfields Village events calendar for all the details and start planning your fall visit.
